The Incredibly Brief History of Synthesis Games March 8, 2011 at 10:50 pm
Waaaay back in September 2009, two friends sat down to lunch and shared their mutual frustration on a topic of great debate:
How exactly can a giant robot roundhouse kick anything in the head?
In their quest for answers, the two hopeless geeks set out to create a pen-and-paper RPG where mecha could Cascading 7-Star Golden Eagle kick their enemies with abandon. And so, Synthesis Games was born.
Weeks became months. Months became lots of months, but the fanboys struggled on. Rules were made, and they were good…for about a week. Many lunches and antacids later, a playtest guide emerged from the ashes of their epic fails…only to meet its untimely demise during its first playtest. For they hadn’t counted on the perils of moving out of cover. Or how front-loading skill bonuses would be a bad idea. Or…well, you get the idea.
To this day, the staff of Synthesis Games (both of them), toil to bring their dream of dragon-punching, flash-kicking giant robots to life…or at least to your gaming collection.
